Young, Poor, and HIV Negative

Across the world, young people experience a disproportionate share of unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and other sexual and reproductive health problems. How, in the face of the growing HIV epidemic, can policymakers and practitioners in resource-constrained settings develop programs that are likely to have the greatest impact? A recently published resource by Safe Passages to Adulthood (SPA)—Case studies of success and innovation: HIV prevention with especially vulnerable young people—provides new insight. Developed with the support of the UK Department for International Development, SPA is a research program that examines young people’s sexual health in poor countries.
