The Western Region of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality will hold their annual conference, May 7-10, 2009, at Asilomar. As a part of that conference, we will hold a Best Student Presentation competition. Students do not need to be the sole author of a piece of work; however, they do need to be the sole presenter. The formal Call for Papers will go out at the end of summer and submissions will close in November. We wanted to alert students early so they could consider the possibilities during the summer.
The conference theme is Sexual Ontogeny: A Lifelong Work in Progress. We will examine the development of sexuality throughout the lifespan. What do we know about the impact of biopsychosocial events in other species and in our own? When is change reversible and when is it not? How do individuals manipulate, consciously or unconsciously, their sexual state? Although the conference has an overall theme, we welcome submissions outside the topic.
