The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality
Western Region Conference
CALL FOR PAPERS
Sexual Ontogeny:
A Lifelong Work in Progress
May 7 – 10, 2009
Asilomar Conference Grounds, Asilomar State Beach, Monterey Bay
Pacific Grove, CA
Deadline for Submissions: November 17, 2008
Our theme is sexual ontogeny: the development of sexuality throughout the lifespan. How do we experience and express our sexualities as we move through our lives? What are physical, emotional, relational, cultural, societal, spiritual, experiential and transpersonal events that shape us? How does sexuality change form? When is change reversible and when is it not? What is the impact of biopsychosocial events in other species and in our own?
Because our focus is on the lifespan, we ask all presenters to include in their abstracts clear identification of the age groups studied in their reports. We will make every attempt to represent the broadest age spectrum possible in the program content.
We welcome multidisciplinary submissions focusing on all aspects of sexuality and development. Although the overall theme is ontogeny, we welcome proposals on any topic related to sexuality. We especially encourage submissions from professionals researching human and animal behavior, clinicians whose work includes healing sexual wounds, and sexuality educators who explore these topics in their classes. Student papers are strongly encouraged; there will be an award for the best student presentation.
Papers will be organized into plenary and concurrent sessions, poster sessions, and Special Interest Group meetings. In addition, Pre-Conference CE Sessions of 3 or 6 hours will be offered; these sessions are designed to provide teachers, researchers, and/or health care providers with fundamentals of theory and practice in sexology. Throughout the conference CE credit will be available for selected presentations. Please see the Submission Guidelines and Proposal Cover Sheet for further information.
The beautiful, secluded conference grounds of Asilomar provide unique opportunities to network and socialize with fellow sexologists, sex therapists, and sexuality educators and advocates. The on-site meals (included with room rate) offer the perfect setting to share with colleagues, and the clustered housing arrangement allows groups to organize rooms based on shared interests and lifestyles. Nestled in one of the country’s most beautiful settings of wooded headlands, ocean beaches and stunning cliffs, the majestic Asilomar conference facilities are historic, rustic, and inspiring, with world-class dining and recreational opportunities nearby.
