HIV Testing Counselor
Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation is the largest specialized provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the nation. Through our healthcare centers, pharmacies, health plan, research and other activities, AHF provides access to the latest HIV treatments for all who need them. AIDS Healthcare Foundation is currently seeking a FT HIV Testing Counselor to work in our SF Public Health Division. The position will be located at 238 18th St., Oakland, CA 94606. The salary is $17/hr based on experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.) -Upholds and ensures code of confidentiality relative to the clients and the testing program. -Interfaces with other senior staff within the prevention department and makes recommendations for department policies. -Assists with the observation and training of new counselors as assigned. -Documents findings and submits reports to Program Manager. -Conducts additional training for counselors as needed and assigned. -Knows and understands program operating policies and procedures. -At the pre-test counseling session conducts a risk-assessment with the client to obtain risk history and demographic information for reporting purposes. -Administers oral test designed to detect HIV anti-bodies following standardized directions. -Times test with stopwatch timer. -Processes sample in accordance with standard guidelines. -Assesses client referral needs and makes referrals as needed during the counseling sessions; documents all referrals made. -Attends counselor meetings. -Assists with client intake as needed. -Assists with Administrative duties as required. AHF Meetings: Attends HIV Testing Counselor's Staff Meetings. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other Qualifications: -Must be able to travel 50% of the time. -Must be primarily available to work on weekdays, evenings, and weekends. -Must have reliable transportation and proof of insurance. Other Skills and Abilities: -Bilingual (Spanish/ English) strongly preferred. -Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. -Ability to work with minimal supervision. -Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice. Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or six to nine months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: -Current San Francisco County or California State HIV Pre and Post Counselor Certification. -Valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
