Years ago sexologist Peggy Kleinplatz examined the "consumer demand for ‘educational’ sex videos." (Kleinplatz, 1997) She indicated that the popularity of these programs was motivated by "the void created by the absence of accurate sexual information in our society and the lack of open communication on the subject." I believe she was right on, but what I don't understand is why haven't we, as sexual health educators made more of an impact on young people to overcome this void of sexual information? Ask any sex therapist about the sexual knowledge of their clients and you'll understand what I'm saying! We need to educate young children and their parents.
